With summer about halfway over, everyone seems to have their and beach and pool playlists set by now. But if you’ve been listening to the same songs since early May, here’s a few more that you can check out and freshen up the repertoire. That being said, I apologize in advance if you were hoping for songs like Calvin Harris’ “Summer” or Magic!’s “Rude”. Most of these are probably songs you haven’t heard before:
Sam Smith broke onto the scene very quickly with his new album, In the Lonely Hour, and gained a lot of recognition as the vocalist for Disclosure’s “Latch”. This funk-a-fied remix of his smash hit is sure to be a welcome addition to your catalog.
This remix will make you want to roll your windows down (if they’re not already) for that drive along the beach. With a warm, uplifting guitar riff that repeats throughout, it’s a calming beat that is fitting for a day by the pool or a night by the fire.
This song has gotten some radio airplay on various stations throughout the country, but still has yet to really “break out”. But keep an eye on Clean Bandit, because they are on their way to being the next big thing. You can purchase their new album, New Eyes, now. In this song specifically, just wait for the melody to come in. There’s no way you can resist at least tapping your foot. And if you’re as obsessed with the synth part as much as I am, then check out The Magician’s remix of the song.
This song samples Pharrell Williams’ “Everyone Nose” and is pretty hard to categorize. Very bouncy and fun to sing along with if you learn the words.
For all of the drum ‘n’ bass fans out there. This record is uplifting and has beautiful vocals courtesy of Alpines. Definitely a must listen when you have the top down, the sun roof open, or just the windows down (if you’re poor like me).
Zeds Dead has always been known for their dubstep and electro bangers, but don’t be so quick to dismiss this track if that’s not your cup of tea. The Canadian duo has always been known for their versatility in their live sets, and now it rings true in their production talents as well. The lyrics over the infectious house beat is sure to bring back memories of your summer sweetheart.
More likely than not you’ve heard of Phoenix, and more likely than not, you have NOT heard of James. Just trust me on this one, the track is easy to listen to and slows down to half tempo during the chorus. You won’t be disappointed.
