Los Angeles has long been known as the Mecca of streetwear. From the hallowed sidewalks of Fairfax, to the heart of the Fashion District, brands from all over the world look to become household names, starting with a foothold in the city that wears t-shirts all 12 months of the year.
This summer, the streetwear industry will congregate in Los Angeles from July 8th to July 11th. Upstart brands and industry fixtures alike will be exhibiting their upcoming lines at two major trade shows in Los Angeles, Agenda Long Beach, and Venue Trade Show. The two trade shows mark a moment of truth for designers, as they pitch their upcoming goods to retailers, and try to garner as much hype as possible for the coming seasons.
First, Venue Trade Show takes place on July 8th and 9th (Tuesday and Wednesday, for those marking their calendars), at The Cooper Building in Los Angeles’ Fashion District. Venue prides itself as being the trade show at which emerging brands can find their big break. While most of the larger, already established brands do not exhibit at Venue, representatives of said brands often attend, just to network and catch an in-depth glimpse of new and exciting brands. Venue is the place for up-and-coming brands to make their next big leap in the eyes of consumers and retail stockists alike.
The Agenda Show takes place on July 10th and 11th, at the Long Beach Convention Center. For the uninformed, Agenda is THE place to be for those involved in the streetwear industry. Over the course of two days, several hundred brands will exhibit at Agenda, ranging from brand-new start-ups, to industry giants such as Crooks and Castles, Diamond Supply Co., and even Volcom. Exhibitors are arranged by style, and all brands are provided with the chance to stand out from the crowd. At Agenda, design is king.
To the dismay of many streetwear fans, there are no retail transactions at these events, so that the brands can focus on wholesale transactions with buyers. As such, attendence to either trade show is generally limited to individuals representing manufacturers, distributers, wholesale buyers, and members of the press. However, for those of you who are interested in hearing the latest about the streetwear scene, many press outlets (including Collective Lifestyle), will be posting reviews in the days after the show, so stay tuned!
