“Crimson Peak” Creaks Open

At long last, Guillermo del Toro has opened the doors to his Gothic haunted house film, Crimson Peak, and the decaying mansion is quite a sight to behold. Set in 19th century England, the film is the director’s love letter to classic literature and horror films like Jane Eyre and The Shining; fans of the del Toro’s previous films, especially The Devil’s Backbone and Pan’s Labyrinth, will recognize many similar themes in the trailer. The official synopsis teases out the plot: In the aftermath of a family tragedy, an aspiring author (Mia Wasikowska) is torn between love for her childhood friend (Charlie Hunnam) and the temptation of a mysterious outsider (Tom Hiddleston). Trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she is swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds…and remembers. Crimson Peak is due out October 16th of this year.
