Leonardo DiCaprio’s “Before the Flood” Documentary

Academy award winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio, has just released a new documentary called Before the Flood. DiCaprio travels around the world to explore the affects of global warming to the environment and in our society. He travels to different countries such as Greenland, India, and China to discovering the depths of pollution and how the environment is being destroyed. He is going above and beyond to inform his viewers of how he is not just an actor but a person who is willing to change the world. His work travels back in the year 2000 where Leonardo DiCaprio conducted interviews to Al Gore about the concept of sustainability. In this documentary, he mentions politicians don’t believe in the term of global warming and are not willing to support the cause. Some of these politicians include Ted Cruz, Paul Ryan, and of course Donald Trump.

Throughout the documentary, major oil companies are mentioned such as BP, Exxon Mobil, Chevron, you name it, the list goes on. He explains these oil companies are discrediting science about global warming. What do I mean by discrediting science? These oil companies are ignoring the studies scientists have conducted about climate change in order to avoid losing money. These companies are polluting the atmosphere, if they change their ways of manufacturing, they won’t be successful at marketing other companies. Today, everything is about money and power and there is no care for the life around us.

From land to the sea, all aspects of the world is experiencing some sort of issue. China is the number one polluter in the world. The coal consumption in Beijing is the equal consumption of the U.S. alone. The smoke the factories are releasing in the air can cause health issues such as cancer or pneumonia. Icebergs in Greenland are melting and polar bears are losing their homes as we speak. As the icebergs freeze underneath, the heat can cause methane gas to develop and become toxic for the wild life around. Take a look at our oceans, coral reefs are declining because waste is being dumped into the sea. Rain forests in India are being burnt to produce palm oil. Palm oil is a type of vegetable oil that is used to produce more than 50% of food products found in our markets today.

There needs to be a solution to these type of issues happening right now. One solution can be taxing companies who use carbon regularly. In the future, companies would use less carbon and find alternatives to manufacture products in the future. We need to help others countries who are less fortunate to transition into a society where there are more resources accessible. It can all start with you. You can be the answers to our problems by choosing what you buy, what you eat, and how you can save energy. This Tuesday on November 8th is the choice of a lifetime. You have the opportunity to elect a leader who will make a change in the world, an individual who cares for the earth, an individual who is not materialistic. Be wise with who you vote for, this can be a positive transition we have all been looking for. Watch the documentary here. It is only available for two more days!
