Matcha Latte

Today I’ll be sharing a super easy recipe that’s packed with nutrients. Instead of your usual morning coffee, start your day out with a Matcha latte!

What is Matcha?

Matcha is essentially green tea that has been ground to a fine powder. It’s a longstanding tradition in Japanese culture and has been consumed as an elixir for over 1000 years in the Far East. Not only are you getting the benefits that green tea offers, but you are also getting the nutrients of the entirety of the leaf. Consuming the whole leaf provides 10 times the total nutrients and about 100 times more antioxidants. Matcha powder is gluten, soy, and dairy free, making it safe for people with food allergies. It’s a great alternative to coffee and doesn’t leave you with a jittery or subsequent crash feeling. Matcha powder is so versatile it can be incorporated into numerous recipes, adding a nutrient punch. It’s great in smoothies, mixed with yogurt or even in cupcake form! You can also change this recipe to an iced latte as summer is approaching.

12 oz almond milk or milk of choice
3 teaspoons matcha
2 packets stevia or sweetener of choice (I use NuNaturals stevia.)

To Make:

Heat 12 oz of milk in a small sauce pan. Once the milk is hot, pour about ¼ cup of the hot milk into your mug. Add matcha powder and sweetener. Continue to stir until the matcha has dissolved. Pour over the rest of the hot milk and enjoy!

For an iced latte, pour the prepared matcha over ice.
