2015 is upon us, which means time for new goals. Not resolutions, but goals. So, let’s get to it!
First, before planning next year’s goals I want you to review how this past year went. Did you accomplish all of your goals? If not, do you want to carry some goals over to the upcoming year? Should you make them more attainable? If you accomplished them, should you set the bar up a notch? Did your goals get you anywhere? Did they make you a better person? If you didn’t accomplish your goals, how fast did you stop caring about them? Why did you stop caring about them? These questions and their answers should get you thinking about the next step.
Next, you should set new goals for the new year. After writing your goals, review them again. Ask yourself the following… Is this enough? How will I reach these goals? What steps and actions will I take to reach them? Does every goal have a sub step? Am I doing anything new? Am I innovating? Am I challenging myself? Will this get me to a position that I’ll be satisfied with by next year? If you have an end goal by the end of the year, work backwards and make sure you have every step covered to reach those goals.
The next step is to plan. Make sure you have a plan of action for these goals. Are you going to wake up each morning to make sure this happens? Are you going to work late, work early, only work on weekdays, work on weekends, etc? What will you do in the first quarter of the year? What about the 2nd and 3rd? What will you be doing over summer? Are you going to finish the year strong in the 4th quarter? You should know what you’ll be doing in each and every month of the year. If you have a month, and you can’t answer what you’ll be doing to achieve your goals in that month, you’re not prepared enough! Failure to plan is planning to fail. At least having a general month to month outline will help you in the long run. It allows you to focus without losing sight of the end goal.
When the new year starts, set your plan into motion! After it’s in motion, constantly review your plan and adjust accordingly. Just because you have something planned now, doesn’t mean it will be the same in 6 months from now, so always keep referring back to your plan to make sure that it is up to date so you can adjust to change. Remember that your journey is always changing. Keeping your plan up to date will hold you accountable making sure that you’re on top of it! And don’t forget to talk about it! Tell people about it. The more people know about it, the more people you have to keep you in check. And the more you keep telling others, the more you will start to believe and continue to go after your plan as well. Lastly, stay determined, always think about your goals, and review them often so you don’t slip off course. The rest of the work is on you! So good luck and have an amazing new year!
When you really want something, the universe will conspire to make it happen for you.
