Dresses are great for the summer months; they keep you cool, look stylish and any excuse to not have to wear pants in public I am all about. These one piece ensembles offer an easy solution to getting dressed but if most of your dresses are plain they can look dull if not mixed with the right accessories. Read on to find out all the different things to pair with those monochromatic dresses to take them from dull and boring to chic and alluring!
Scarf- A scarf is a great accessory that you can do so much with; wear it around your neck, as a belt or as a headband. Choose a scarf in a lightweight fabric with a fun pattern to pair with a plain dress for an instant outfit transformation. Don’t know how to tie a scarf? There are many different ways it can be tied, just look online, many websites offer step by step instructions.
Vest- I bought a denim vest last summer and wear it at least once a week and mostly with plain dresses. A denim vest, crochet vest or one in a light fabric all make great additions to a monochromatic dress. Choose a dressier one and immediately make a day-time dress night-time appropriate.
Belt- A belt can not only add to a solid hued dress but also give the illusion of an hour glass shape. Belts are an accessory that most of us already own, so it is a good way to accessorize a plain dress without spending any money.
Statement Necklace- A large necklace will have maximum impact on a plain dress and really complete it. Choose one with colorful beads, a large centerpiece or bold stones for a fun look.
Trim- You don’t have to be a seamstress to add trim to a plain dress, it can be added easily with minimal to no sewing (fabric glue works wonders!). Attach trims such as feather, fringe or beading to the neckline, under the bustline and around the hem for a dress makeover.
