In the ongoing drama saga of Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima and game studio Konami (Did he quit? Was he fired? Has he hidden himself away in Solid Snake’s box?), the latest revelation has been the disheartening announcement of the cancellation of “Silent Hills”.
Announced last year with a terrifying demo called “P.T.” on the Playstation network, it was shortly revealed that the game was being developed by Kojima and famed movie director Guillermo del Toro with popular “The Walking Dead” star Norman Reedus set to portray the main character. This past weekend both del Toro and Reedus announced their sadness that the project would not be coming to full fruition and as of today, in a statement released to Kotaku, Konami confirmed the end of the project by stating:
Konami is committed to new Silent Hill titles, however the embryonic ‘Silent Hills’ project developed with Guillermo del Toro and featuring the likeness of Norman Reedus will not be continued.
In terms of Kojima and Del Toro being involved, discussions on future Silent Hill projects are currently underway, and please stay tuned for further announcements.
And all that could have been…
Konami is going one step further too and is pulling the demo down from the Playstation network on April 29th. If you didn’t get a chance to experience it before this then proceed below for a commentary free play-through for a taste of what could have been something great.
