The skill of binge watching television is an art that one can master, with little to no skill or talent at all.
There are two types of binge watching, there’s the “catch-up” and there’s the “because I’m out of the loop.”
The “catch-up,” is when you’re actually into a show, but don’t have time to watch it as it airs. Next thing you know, you’re a season behind.
Therefore, you must watch all the episodes of the lost season in a two to three day sitting, where you cannot be disturbed as you are now in a trance –like state of happiness.
The “because I’m out of the loop,” is a feeling you get when everyone on Twitter or Facebook is talking about a particular show and you’ve never seen it. For example, Game of Thrones, Mad Men, etc. would fall in this category.
It becomes this deep-rooted obsession. So you must compensate by watching the show for endless amounts of hours just to see and converse about topics that people have spent years knowing and understanding.
After the binge watch, comes either an addiction for more or an undeniable feeling of regret.
Currently, I’m in the regret stage as I am half way through season four of True Blood. I have lost so many brain cells and a little bit of my dignity.
If you decide that you too, can master binge watching television just remember to stay hydrated and emerge from the darkness of your room at least once a day.
