Trade-In Unwanted Goods with Decluttr

Adele tops list of Christmas CD trade-ins

  • Adele 21 is the most traded-in CD over Christmas Day in America
  • Over 500,000 items sold this Christmas vacation

Adele’s iconic album, ‘21’ was the most traded album over Christmas Day according to re-commerce specialists Decluttr – an online service that buys unwanted DVDs, CDs and video games from consumers.

Festive trade-ins were at a record high this year, with 509,403 CDs, DVDs and video games sold to Decluttr in the 48 hours after Santa’s visit.  Trade-ins peaked at 4pm on Christmas Day and 3pm on Saturday 26 December.

Adele’s second album 21 proved to be the most traded CD. Other items in the unwanted CD list included Santana’s ‘Supernatural’, Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’, One Direction’s ‘Four’ and ‘The Marshall Mathers LP’ by Eminem.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 was the most unwanted video game, and Finding Nemo was the most traded DVD.

Liam Howley, marketing director at Decluttr, said: “The Christmas vacation is always our busiest time of year as thousands of customers come to us to sell the items that have been replaced by newer gifts – whether that’s CDs, DVDs or video games. What’s more, people find that they have overspent on presents, or have received gifts they know they won’t use, so need an easy way to either make cash from these unwanted items, or simply get rid of the clutter.

“Our CD and DVD trade-ins are always a good barometer of what or who is waning in popularity and this year’s trade-in figures make for quite interesting reading, particularly for Adele.  It’s more than likely her recent come-back has encouraged music-lovers to invest in her new and improved sound. When it comes to the rest of the unwanted list, parents may have found their kids have grown out of Finding Nemo and have sold this to make space for new presents as their tastes change. Gamers will be selling their completed games to get money for newer releases in 2016.”

When it comes to DVDs, Frozen, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2, Avatar and The Dark Knight all feature in the most unwanted DVD list.

Call of Duty features twice in the unwanted data with Black Ops 3 and Ghosts both making an appearance. These are followed by Fallout 4, Madden NFL 15 and Grand Theft Auto V – all proving to be in America’s most popular unwanted video games list.
