Try Something New

Life can get boring sometimes. You wake up in the morning, go to work, come back home, and go to sleep. Of course you have chores and meals that will vary day by day but many people wind up in the same old routine.  But what can you do about it?

Try something new. It’s a simple idea that can go a long way. Don’t over think the endless possibilities that are available. Below, I’ve listed a few things you can try out today.

Meditation. In almost every article I write, I will do what ever it takes to shamelessly plug this in. Meditation is one of the most rewarding things you can try and almost nobody does it. It takes a few minutes each day and can be plugged in almost anywhere in your schedule. Youtube has a lot of great videos you can use to help get started. Try this one.

Join a class. There are community colleges, gyms, and all sorts of places that have classes once or twice a week; and many them cost just a few dollars a class. Here’s an excellent opportunity to try something new. Make sure to take a class that is out of the ordinary for you. Something difficult even. Mild discomfort or the unknown are amazing things to experience. Ask a friend to take it with you.

Same Things in Different Places. There are so many mundane tasks you have to do everyday: homework, chores, meetings, eating meals. These are things that don’t have to be boring. You can do homework at a coffee shop instead of home, meeting at a sports bar while catching the game, lunch at the park or museum that’s close by. There are a million possibilities if you try to be creative about it.

Attend an Event. Instead of going to the same bar or hanging out at the same friend’s pad, go to an event. Eventbrite is an amazing site. This site let’s you choose a city and find out what events are coming up.  I’ve heard of cool events like great gatsby parties and recreated prom nights that I’ve always wanted to attend. Some of the events may cost you but they also have free events.

Yes Day. That’s correct. For one day, say yes to everything. No ifs, ands, or buts. If you don’t think you can pull it off, try it for a few hours.

Etc. Instead of etc. being the end of it, I’ll continue by listing a few other ideas I’ve come up with.

1. Work out at the beach

2. Tip big, like 30-50% of your bill.

3. Sleep in your backyard. Camping status!

4. Do what you used to do as a kid! Play! Enjoy not having to worry about a thing!

5. Go for a light jog or walk in your local city.

By adding any of these things into your life, I promise you’ll start to see your typical day in a whole new way!
