In the wee hours of this Friday morning, a short video surfaced on Tyrese Gibson’s Facebook page. The video shows Gibson, Dr. Dre, and a sizeable, but intimate group of friends drunkenly celebrating a multi-billion dollar deal with Apple for Beats.
A press release from either company has yet to become public and, considering Dre essentially confirms the deal’s success in his jovial exchange with Gibson, the video was swiftly pulled from Gibson’s page. Naturally, however, the video had already been uploaded to Youtube:
The value stems from Beats consistently using its technology to improve audio on devices owned by Apple’s competitors. Additionally, Beats’ new streaming service goes head to head with iTunes Radio, the former offering a larger catalog for a subscription fee and the latter serving mostly as a failed ploy to increase iTunes sales. Adding Beats to its arsenal, Apple may start to leave a more impressive mark on the streaming market and could potentially get users back from services like Spotify or Pandora.
Though the above sources anticipated an official announcement next week, this slip-up may prompt the companies to release statements ahead of schedule.
