November 4th marks election day and with it comes the stress and disorder of voter registration and those annoying sign-wielding lobbyists standing on the side of the road by your high-school or college. As you pass by them you most likely wonder to yourself- “why are they even doing this, is it even worth it?”
While standing outside in frigid weather with large signs and excessive political flair may not be worth it completely, voting in general most certainly is. The upcoming election day is primarily local government, as the presidential election isn’t until 2016, but that doesn’t mean it should be brushed off as insignificant! In fact, if anything the local elections are the ones which your voice is most likely to get heard, since electoral votes aren’t a factor when it comes to choosing a governor. So if you are in a red state and you happen to be a democrat, your vote actually makes a difference. Scott Brown ran for Senator in Massachusetts (a state that NEVER goes red) as a republican and actually won!
You may know that your vote matters, but politics are boring anyway, right? Wrong! You do not need to be a political expert with a brain stuffed with political jargon to have an opinion on what is right and what is wrong politically, nor do you need to know an in depth analysis of each candidate running. All you need is your beliefs, and a quick search of each selections platform to base a decision. If you are passionate about the environment, minimum wage, equal pay, or even college tuition it is critical that you get your voice heard, and vote for someone who will lobby for the things you want to see! You may have strong beliefs that you want to see enacted, and keeping them inside of your head is a waste. Place your vote for who you think best fits your political interests, and the interests of the greater good. We all want things changed about our country and our local government that rests in the hands of our Governors, mayors, etc. Take the time to vote this November 4th, and don’t forget to grab a little piece of flair on the way out.
Besides, if you don’t vote Diddy might kill you- (Warning-Explicit Language)
