Health trends are nothing new; anyone who has been on any detox or diet plan knows this. Every program or method has time in the spotlight for a while. In the recent past, juicing had a front and center spot in the world of health and weight loss. Now, the tides have turned to make room for so-called “teatox” plans. They are talked about in blogs, gyms, offices, and are plastered around all major social media outlets. Tea had finally come back into the spotlight, having been cast out by shakes and juices. I had heard enough about them myself and decided to give a teatox a try and see what all the hype is about. There are many brands out there, from Matefit to Bootea. I shopped around a little before stumbling upon my choice. I decided upon Skinny Teatox (www.skinny-teatox.com) because of the affordability compared to its counterparts and the fact that they use all-natural blends and had solid reviews. If I was jumping into this, I wanted to make sure it was will all of the facts and with a product that wouldn’t harm my body.
Of course, I made sure to read the ingredients list first to see what I was getting into. Detox teas are essentially made of similar components across the board. Their ingredients include senna leaf, ginger, cinnamon bark, and more. Generally, they consist of a daytime tea that you drink in the morning and afternoon and an evening tea that you drink every other night. The Skinny Teatox also followed this plan. Going into the teatox, I was worried that it’d taste gross and that, by giving up my morning coffee, I’d be irritable. I also was scared about the evening tea and the effects it would have on my body. I set to start the teatox midweek, jumping right into it. I set up a workout plan where I would hit the gym up 5 times a week for at least an hour a session. I also chose to follow a low carb meal plan. These are slight increases to my usual routine, but nothing too drastic. I wanted to see if the tea worked, not my sudden exponential increase in exercise and strict diet.
Finally, Wednesday arrived and I woke up in the morning ready to start my journey into the world of the teatox. I decided to forgo my morning coffee during this process, and to my surprise the tea actually kept me energized. The aroma was fruity but it had an earthy taste. If you’re not traditionally a tea drinker, I’d definitely recommend a sugar substitute or natural honey. If you are a tea drinker, you’ll love the taste! Now, on the evening of my second day, I decided to try the evening tea. I definitely recommend that this be consumed right after dinner because it warns of laxative effects. The taste of this one wasn’t the greatest, so I found myself adding honey and I usually love tea. Mid-teatox, I started noticing I had more energy and was less bloated. It wasn’t until the end though that I noticed that I really slimmed down and felt better. A few days after, I still feel pretty good. My eating hasn’t been as clean so my results aren’t as good as they were at first but they’re still there. The biggest thing I noticed was that the tea was a good way for me to control my sugar cravings, which are usually very hard to ignore. Leading me away from chocolaty temptation and still keeping me going through my day is a feat that I have to give the teatox credit for.
My verdict is that teatox’s are effective but a firm healthy lifestyle has to be in place for the effects to be lasting. It’s definitely good if you have an event, like a wedding or a photo shoot of sorts, that you have a goal of getting healthier for. I also recommend the teatox for starting off your healthy lifestyle journey strong or simply for a routine detox of the body. Don’t go into a teatox expecting a weight loss miracle, because it is not that. The teatox, with its effective blend of herbs and natural ingredients, will simply be a cup of tea if you eat a burger while lounging on the couch and expect it to cancel out. It is meant to compliment, not substitute, diet and exercise. Skinny Teatox is a solid choice for a teatox, but it is just the tip of the iceberg for how many brands there are. If you want to jump on the teatox bandwagon, please research first and make sure the best ingredients are being used. There are cheap imitations out there that don’t deliver the detox effects that true tea blends will do. The most important thing of all is to remember that it isn’t about weight loss. It is about feeling healthier. Don’t weigh yourself, track the way your body and mind are feeling. You’ll find that the teatox will put you in a better state than before you started it, and if you keep the positive energy going by making a permanent change in your day to day food and activities, you will feel better than ever. A tiny cup of tea can’t change the world, but it may give you the energy to find the change within yourself.
